Better Models Are a Good Thing

Bill Harris has produced a great deal of insightful material about systems and modeling.  He comes at it from a different perspective than most of our System Engineering colleagues, which makes it even more interesting.  Mr. Harris’ most recent gem is in his blog, in a post titled “Introducing literate modeling.”  I encourage you to read the whole post, but his discussion about the benefit of better models particularly caught my eye:

“Better models, applied appropriately to generate better insights, might just help you make better decisions. Better decisions, carried through with good implementation, might just lead to better results over the long haul.”

I’m fascinated by the notion that using modeling and simulation to analyze systems applies across such a very broad range of disciplines.
